Discover Scuba Diving
Have you always wondered what it’s like to breathe and feel weightlessness while swimming underwater? If you want to try scuba diving, but aren’t sure that you’re ready to take the steps towards becoming a certified diver, PADI Discover Scuba Diving is a great way to find out whether or not scuba is for you. Discover Scuba Diving will provide the basic experience and knowledge to make an informed decision. While not a scuba certification course, Discover Scuba Diving is a quick and easy introduction to some of the fundamental skills of scuba diving under the guidance and supervision of an experienced PADI instructor.

Prerequisites
To participate in the PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience, you must:
- Be at least 10 years old.
- Have no prior scuba diving experience (this course is for beginners).
- Be in reasonable physical health.
Prior to your session, you’ll need to complete PADI’s Medical Questionnaire to ensure you’re fit for diving. If you have any medical conditions flagged on the form, a doctor’s approval may be required.
What Will You Learn?
Your experience will begin with a classroom session, where you’ll learn the basics of scuba diving and safety. From there:
- You’ll move to shallow water to practice and master simple diving skills.
- Once you’re comfortable and confident, you’ll progress to deeper water to explore the underwater world under the supervision of a certified PADI Instructor.
If you’d like to extend your adventure with an open water dive (in a lake or ocean), you’ll practice a few additional skills in shallow water to prepare for this exciting experience.
What Scuba Gear Will You Use?
Portsmouth Scuba will provide all the gear you’ll need, including:
- Mask
- Snorkel
- Fins
- Regulator
- Buoyancy Control Device (BCD)
- Dive gauges
- Tank
- Wetsuit, hood, gloves, and weights.
Optional: If you have your own mask, snorkel, or fins, feel free to bring them. Otherwise, we’ll provide these items for you.
All you need to bring is a bathing suit, towel, and transportation to and from the dive location.
Cost
The course fee includes:
- Course Materials: Booklet or eLearning access.
- Instructor Fees: Classroom and pool sessions with a certified PADI Instructor.
- One Classroom Session
- One Confined Water (Pool) Session
- Rental Gear: Free use of all necessary scuba equipment (tanks, BCD, regulator, wetsuit, hood, gloves, and weights).
