Position Overview
This is a three-phase role designed to grow into a Sales/Service Technician position over time. You will begin by learning the tools, systems, and standards that support our service department while building a strong foundation in scuba equipment care. We are looking for someone who loves to fix and tinker with mechanical systems, takes pride in hands-on work, and enjoys collaborating with customers and team members. As you develop, you will take on more responsibility in delivering exceptional sales and service experiences. The goal is to help you grow into a trusted technician who can work independently and confidently.
Three-Phase Development Path
- Phase 1: Learning & Foundation — This three- to six-month development period is designed for you to work alongside Portsmouth Scuba's Master Technician while learning the tools, processes, and expectations of the service department. You will become a trusted team member and blend in with current staff, customers, and systems while developing a working knowledge of scuba equipment, including both recreational and technical gear
- Phase 2: Hands-On Service & Repair — This Portsmouth Scuba-sponsored certificate program combines e-learning, video conference, and in-person seminars so you can gather all required brand-specific service certifications. As you progress, you will continue working on equipment repairs under supervision while building practical repair skills and learning to diagnose and repair issues accurately.
- Phase 3: Sales/Service Technician — In the final phase, you will work hand in hand with the service team as a trusted and valued leader for Portsmouth Scuba. You will become a key point of contact for technical repairs, service questions, and equipment recommendations. This expanded role combines hands-on technical expertise with customer-facing support and independent problem-solving. You will also work shifts on the shop floor helping customers, processing sale, answering questions, and offering thoughtful recommendations based on your technical knowledge.
